Dichroic Glass

Dichroic glass contains multiple micro layers of metals or oxides that gives the glass interesting optical properties. Depending on the angle you view it, light either passes through or is reflected, causing a lovely array of colors.
Developed by NASA for use on space shuttles, dichroic glass was quickly adopted by jewelry makers for its lovely jewel tones. It is expensive however, so is generally not a material incorporated into craft projects.
Join us at the art bar this Sunday for a mini drop-in class featuring a quick, easy and affordable technique to make faux dichroic glass. You will love the look of this!

Bring out the quilts the cool weather is here

I just love this time of year. The leaves start changing and the temperature starts to drop. It's fall and I it's a great time to get out those warm quilts out to take the chill off.

I stumbled upon this steel cut die a few months ago and couldn't wait to make a class out of it.
It looked so versatile to use for cards. Three different patterns makes it so you can make so many cards for so many different occasions. At this time of year you can use them for fall/thanksgiving cards along with those holiday cards coming up just around the corner.

I created a class with this die and will be teaching it this Sunday, Oct. 13th from 1-3pm here at Kept Creations. We'll be making two cards with a little homespun look. If you haven't signed up for this class call the store 781-447-4010 or you can sign up via the website using paypal.

Hope to see you this weekend!

Busy, busy....

This was quite a busy week. You know, the kind of week where you dash from one thing to another. I finally got caught up with things, just in time for the weekend. And this is what I did.....!

The picture quality isn't great, so let me describe a few details. I hauled out my box of goodies from Coffee Break Designs. The window, bat wings, tree, lock, tombstones and potion bottles are all Masonite pieces from CBD. I embossed them with various colored powders from the Piccolo line (I love those awesome powders!) The flower is a brass charm from Vintaj, rubbed with Inca Gold paints from VivaDecor. There are also some Stickles around some edges, and Mud Puddles in the cemetery.

It looks soooo good hanging in my living room! So, what did YOU do this weekend?

Help find a Cure!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Kept Creations is doing our part with two very special events!  A Pumpkin Carving Contest for adults and a Children's Painted Pumpkins for a Cure Event.
Proceeds from these events will be donated to Compound Cuties for a Cure - an Avon Foundation

For $25, you can join us on Sunday, October 20th from 12-4PM and be a part of our Pumpkin Carving Contest!  Kept Creations will supply the pumpkin, tools and ideas.  We'll even remove all the pumpkin filling for you.  You pick a design and start your carving.  Once done, we'll take a picture and post for our contest (you can take your pumpkin home that day!).  People will have the option of voting for the best pumpkin online and in the store.  On October 31st, all the votes will be added up and one lucky winner will receive a gift certificate to Kept Creations!  Proceeds from this event will be donated to Compound Cuties for a Cure. To be sure we have enough pumpkins for the event, please sign up by Thursday, October 17th.

Or you and your little munchkin can join us for Painted Pumpkins for a Cure.  This $20 event will be held on Saturday, October 26th from 10:30AM - 3PM.  Drop in anytime to paint your pumpkin!   Kept Creations will provide the pumpkin, paint, glitter and fun!  Nicole will be here to help your little one paint a face or design.  Once done, we'll dry  your pumpkin and you can take it home for the holiday!  Proceeds from this event will also be donated to Compound Cuties for a Cure.  To be sure we have enough pumpkins for this event, please sign up by Thursday, October 24th.

Compound Cuties for a Cure will be making their team debut participating in the Boston 2014 walk. This group of women are dedicated to seeing a cure for breast cancer! Visit their donation page here and LIKE them on Facebook here.

Kept Creations will only be keeping the monies needed for the pumpkins.  All other monies received will be donated to Compound Cuties for a Cure.
